As a result of the terror attacks on September 11, 2001, the USA have decided to accept only Visitors who have a passport with biometric data for easy entrance. USVISIT – Program. The member states of European Union have to issue biometric passports in the end of 2006 and increase the biometric content by beginning of 2008. A lot of other states and countries plan to integrate biometric technolcogies into government cards, social security cards, health care and social security IDs. The ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) define the Passport design and security standards for international travel documents such as Passport and Visa. The ISO/JTC1 creates technology standards for biometric techniques to ensure the vendor independent functionality of algortihms and sensors.
